Upload Cinema presents the ‘canon van YouTube’ on February 22

While attending the latest Upload Cinema evening, we got news from Dagan Cohen (one of the founders of Upload Cinema) about a special event. On February 22 Upload Cinema will present the ‘canon van YouTube’ in the Rabozaal at the Stadschouwburg Amsterdam. Why? Because YouTube has turned 5 years old. Together with a panel of media and internet experts Upload Cinema will select and show the most important movies that shaped the online world. It will be a attempt to make the online history of YouTube visable.
This event will be the largest Upload Cinema event so far: 500 people can attend the cinematic experience.

For those of you who don’t know what Upload Cinema is first a small explanation from their own website:
Upload Cinema is a film club that takes the best web films to the big screen. Every first Monday of the month we present a fresh program of inspiring and entertaining Internet shorts. Each month there’s is a new theme. The audience can submit films; an editorial team selects the best and compiles a ninety minutes program, which is screened at movie theatres and special venues.

Upload Cinema was started by Barbara de Wijn and Dagan Cohen. With the arrival of YouTube and User Generated Content they saw the world of film change.

Film is becoming more and more a collaborative, social activity. But unfortunately this activity is taking place behind the computer at home or at work. Which is, lets face it, not the best possible place to enjoy movies…
Upload Cinema wants take this exciting new way of making and sharing film out of the domestic realm, away from the internet and the tiny computer screen and into a space that’s designed for a collective experience: the cinema.

Upload Cinema started at the small and cozy cinema De Uitkijk at the Prinsesgracht in Amsterdam, but is now screening at three places: De Uitkijk, Amsterdam, Filmhuis Den Haag and Cinerama Rotterdam. This February they will put their biggest show: presenting the ‘canon van YouTube’.
